The Boise Experience: Undergrad Senior Project
The Project:
As the final step in my interdisciplinary degree in Multimedia Experience Design, I needed to come up with a senior project that would serve as a capstone to my education and demonstrate my ability to use the skills I had gained during my time at Boise State. I knew I did not want to follow tradition and write a research paper. I also knew I would not have enough time to construct a real-world experience to my level of satisfaction in one semester. Therefore, I settled on a part academic, part creative investigation into a problem I was seeing in my community.
The city of Boise has been growing for a long time now, but it has recently seen a huge increase in people moving there from other states. However, despite the new growth (as well as the old), it felt to me like our local attractions (mainly museums) had been in stagnation since I first visited them as a child. For my project, I wanted to actively research the community’s perception of our cultural attractions, and see if there were any possibilities I could identify for ways to bring them the same kind of success the housing market was seeing.
My Work:
After spending the semester interviewing, researching, brainstorming, analyzing, and ultimately designing, I presented my ideas to a group of my degree advisors, local attraction and government representatives, and select friends and family. I have included the slides from my presentation, as well as the original transcript, below.
